Hey guys, I am coming to you from downtown Salt Lake City. Right now, I am actually in Grand America because tomorrow is Vanessa’s birthday. She has been working hard, show her some love. I am taking the night off at Grand America, and I am having a good time.
Today, day 19 of our 60 sunrises to success. The key for today is being in a position to earn and learn. Now a lot of people will do one or the other. What is the problem with just learning, learning, and learning? Well, you are not making any money. You are just a perpetual student in class after class after class.
Then there is also a challenge of just earning, earning, and earning. You never really make much progress. You do not get to apply and learn new things. The key is to earn and learn to implement while you are going through new information. That new education is a new endeavor. Whatever you want to do, whether that is, building a business, creating something new, or real estate investing.
One of the keys that were lost that we can bring back is the old model of apprenticeship. Someone who gets to work with someone else who has been there done that and is doing it currently can offer insight and information. Trying to learn out of a textbook is way too hard.
Unfortunately, with the way the U.S. public education is set up, by the time the books come out, they are four or five years old before they get into our hands. If science has made a change, or there is something new, it is too late.
So there is formal education, and then there is self-education, there is the education of learning who you are, what you are capable of, what you want to do to be all of that. In this earning and learning, we have to remember that experience is a currency.
Many people say, Well, I am not going to work for free. I am only going to work if I get money. Someone who values their time more than money does not need to be compensated by money. There are other compensations for learning. There are introductions to new people or relationships, which are compensation, information, and knowledge.
What about shortcuts, or processes, things that will help you improve what you are up to? So all of these things come into your learning and earnings. Find a person or a group of people that you could join, where they are doing the thing you want to do, and learn from them as you are earning. Implement as you go. Do not wait three years, or four years to get a degree before you start implementing things.
In the information age, we are in, you could be googling so much more information and making a lot of progress and acting on that information. If you want to start a restaurant, find someone that owns a restaurant, say I want to shadow you, right? I want to learn what it is like to own a restaurant. Maybe at the end of it, you will see how to buy ten restaurants.
You will be like, Oh, you know what, I did not want to own a restaurant, I just wanted to be a chef. Right? Or maybe storage units or land development or web design, whatever it is, find someone who is making something on the web that you want to learn how to do, ask them to ask if you could shadow them.
This learning and earning idea. As universities have become more popular over the last century, we have gotten away from people with experience. We have been getting lectured by people who have been lectured by other people. As a result we are getting less effective students out in the world.
So find someone today that is getting the result you want and ask to shadow them. Okay, earn, and learn. I will leave you with two Jim Rohn quotes. You got to study this guy because he found a way to live the good life.
He said two things. One, he said, Never begrudge the money you spend on education. Okay, because the money is temporary and education lasts forever. Then the other thing he said was formal education will make you a living, self-education will make you a fortune. So, in this earning learn lesson for today, you got to learn about yourself, you got to learn about the business, whatever it is that you want to do, express gratitude all the time.
Remember, compensation doesn’t always come in the form of money. Okay? So that is what I have for you today guys. Remember day 19. Also remember, it’s Vanessa’s birthday tomorrow. So say hi. Spread some love. Remember to take back your existence or die like a punk. Peace out.
